Workshop Wednesday: Print Shop Happenings
Hello all! As I discussed in a previous post, the HMS print shop is now up and operational thanks to the hard work of our fabulous volunteers Falon and Ben and our printing yoda, James of Mystic Multiples.
Watch for new printing classes on the schedule soon and get a sneak peak of the screen printing process in the photos after the break.
The first step to screen printing is to create a design, print it on transparency, and then expose it into a screen using photo emulsion and a light table. For this practice run, we will be printing 2 layers, each exposed into a separate screen so that the final product will look something like this:
The exposed screens are then positioned into the printing press.
Ink is then applied....
And then the ink is pulled through the screen using a squeegee and constant pressure.
Once both layers were applied, our samples looked like this:
After drying, our practice run was ready to be proudly posted about the HMS Print Shop. Hurray for homemade signage!
Stay tuned for opportunities to learn the ways of the print shop yourself!
